I’ve been having a rough week…My brother cut himself in the hand and now I have to help him with everything he needs so it took me a while to finish Vicious by V.E. Schwab but I finally did!
This book was part of my second challenge of #TheReadingQuest: read a book with a one-word title.
If you don’t know what #TheReadingQuest is, check out this post.
You can see my first update and my review on The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan here.
Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?
This was the 4th V. E. Schwab book that I read and, once again, I loved it! She’s one of my favourite authors and I just want to read everything she has ever written!!
In this one, we follow Victor and Eli in the present and past and slowly find out what happened to make them hate each other so much. The story jumps back and forth throughout the book which could’ve been confusing but Victoria does an amazing job at it, especially because the chapters are very short making it really easy to understand everything.
Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about these two…As the name Vicious implies, they are both villains and they both did or keep doing unforgivable and vicious things. They annoy me so much but, at the same time, I understand them. I understand what makes them do the things they do, even if most times I don’t agree with them. I think that Victor was my favourite tho (I don’t know anything anymore…)
I didn’t know what to expect when they finally met and oh well…
I feel like I can’t say much more without giving the story away, so I’m just going to tell you that I absolutely loved Sydney (the “young girl with a stunning ability”) and Mitch (a chocolate milk lover). They were the sweetest characters and I really enjoyed their relationship. And of course Dol (if you read the book, you know who he is and I’m sure you love him too ♥).
V. E. Schwab is still writing the sequel so we’ll have to wait
until god knows when to find out what the hell these vicious characters will be up to.
As I said before, I loved it, but this was not my favourite book by her. The Shades of Magic trilogy it’s still on top of the list followed by This Savage Song. I highly recommend it if you like stories revolving around villains.

25/08/2018 update: reread this book and ended up enjoying it a lot more than the first time around so I changed the rating for 5 stars.
